Melissa + Jason wedding

We (Laura here) recently photographed Melissa and Jason’s wedding. We began with the girls at Hotel ZaZa, which is always a beautiful background and a great way to start the day. We then headed over to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church via a little red trolly. Highlights of the ceremony were when the priest asked them (before the ceremony) what first attracted them to each other. There were many sentimental and sweet answers of course, but what I remembered most was Jason’s reply that Melissa looked a lot like Cameron Diaz (she does too!) After the ceremony and some photos we headed over to Brennan’s of Houston for dinner and reception. The food there is always delicious (and the pralines… need we say more?) and the atmosphere was most festive. The guests danced the night away to the sounds of the Newsboyz, out of Austin. I loved the way Melissa danced with her dad and Jason’s expressions when they had their first dance. It was definitely an evening they will never forget. Right now they are relaxing on their honeymoon in French Polynesia, but soon they will be back in Houston.

NACE 2011 Wedding Trends

Once again, the Houston Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives successfully executed its 5th Annual Wedding Trends Event. And for the fifth year in a row D. Jones Photography was the official event photographers. This was the first in the five years that was an evening event, which was held at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum and a magnificently transformed airplane hanger complete with a 1940′s era plane as the background. There were so many participating vendors (over 80) that made this one of the largest local NACE events to date. One of the many highlights was the arrival of our “bride and groom” who pulled up in a  Lear jet,  strolled onto the dance floor for a special dance lead by the Richard Brown Orchestra, then proceeded to cut a cake from Who Made the Cake? that was lowered from the ceiling. An aerialist was also on hand suspended upside down pouring Moet champagne. You just had to be there to experience how amazing everything was.

Donated services from the vendors was well over $300,000 and it certainly shows with the attention to detail of decorations including tenting, entertainment, lighting, food, servers, transportation… Proceeds from the auction are being donated to our local University of Houston Student Chapter, which is the largest and most active in the organization.

Mary + Robert engagement

Mary Elizabeth and Robert were such a sweet couple to work with. They first met at a friends Deb ball a few years back and it’s been history ever since. For their engagement session Laura started out at Mary’s parents house which is right next to the Houston Country Club golf course. They wanted to get a couple of photos with their little puggle. We then headed out to the golf course at the club to get some photos of them in the greenery. We got a lot of fun photos and I can’t wait for their wedding in August, I know it is going to be a blast!

Sheridan’s bridal session

We photographed Sheridan’s bridal portrait back in March at River Oaks Country Club. We had a great time working together and of special note is the veil, which is her grandmother’s. There are three of the cousins that are getting married this year and each one is utilizing the veil. Out of the three wearing it this year, we are covering two of them. Thanks again to Angela Nix for the referral and assisting the bride and Bergner and Johnson for providing the bridal bouquet.

Melissa + Jason engagement

For Melissa and Jason’s engagement session, Laura headed down to Galveston to get some photos of the couple on the Strand and by the beach. First we started off in the strand area and by the harbor. We then headed over to East Beach, but the breeze from the water got the best of us so we then headed over to some grasses to finish off. Can’t wait for their wedding at the end of the month!

Westin Memorial City

The new Westin Memorial City opened recently and Laura was on hand the day before for the staff pep rally to get them all riled up and ready to go for the big day. The festivities for the day included lunch, a fashion show of staff uniforms (many made from eco fabric that was made from recycled plastic bottles!), a group photo of all of the inaugural staff and finally a live flash mob in front of the hotel on Gessner.

It was a lot of fun, they have chosen a great staff and I know this is going to be a wonderful hotel for guests and conventions alike.

Lynn + Michael wedding

Lynn and Michael were married this past Saturday at an island themed venue in Santa Fe, Texas called Hidden Palms. They first met when he saw her doing Karaoke, and she did a little bit at the wedding, so other than just being adorable, I can see how she caught his eye. They were such a warm and fun couple to work with. Congratulations you two, and have fun on your Mexican honeymoon!
