Bevin + Dan wedding

Oh, what can we say about Bevin and Dan’s wedding that would truly describe it? This was really a completely fabulous celebration of love between one of the neatest couples we have had the pleasure to work with. We were approached by Bevin about a year ago about her wedding, and I was so happy she ended up choosing us!

So about this wedding!

We started our day of at the Hotel ZaZa in the museum district. Bevin was getting ready with her girls in one of the suites while Dan was upstairs in the Black Label Suite (which was going to be their suite later that night). This is one of the “Magnificent Seven” Suites on the 12th floor and one of the ones that has an out door tub! We took lots of photos at ZaZa before heading over to the Chapel of St. Basil for the ceremony.

The ceremony itself was a very touching Catholic ceremony. The personalized service was enhanced by Dan’s sister in law playing guitar while his niece sang a song for them.

After the ceremony was over, Bevin and Dan exited the church where we got lots of photos on the lawn in front of the church while the guests had cocktails in the labyrinth to the sounds of a full mariachi band. The couple were soon introduced as husband and wife and then guests walked to the Menil Collection by lantern light where they were served cocktails and h’or dourves.

After about an hour we all headed over to the Richmond Hall where the Dan Flavin exhibit is housed for the main reception. Music was provided by the Richard Brown Orchestra, which is something like a 15-20 piece band in the big band tradition. The couple went into their first dance and I have to say they really were amazing dancers! After toasts everyone tucked into the food which was prepared by A Fare Extraordinaire. They had Churrasco steaks with chimichurri sauce, pecan fried chicken, avocados stuff with lump crab meat or edamame, macaroni and cheese with truffles, ceviche with fried plantains and jalapeno cheese grits. Very yummy!

After more dancing we went into the white room for the cake cutting. The cake itself was made by Susie’s Cakes and was also all white and shaped to mimic the Dan Flavin light pieces on the walls.

After the reception the couple left to party the night away at the ZaZa with their friends and family and then they went on to a two week road trip through the Florida Keys. Where this will lead them, who knows, but i am sure they will have a blast together!

Kellye + Lance wedding

Kellye and Lance celebrated their wedding on June 13, 2009 at Memorial Drive UMC with a reception that followed at the Houstonian Grande Ballroom. Alia with Belle of the Ball finalized and coordinated the event wonderfully. Be sure to check out the detail in the deer themed groom’s cake from Susie’s Cakes. We had a wonderful time at this wedding. The band Blind Date, in from Austin, was very versatile and kept everyone dancing to anything from Sinatra to Journey to Thriller and beyond. In fact, Kellye also did a rousing dance to “Baby Got Back” that just confirmed what an awesome bride she is. We love our clients!

Jennifer + Ryan wedding

Jennifer and Ryan married on June 6, 2009. The ceremony was held at St. Vincent de Paul which is where the groom’s grandparents were also married by the same priest. The reception followed in the Grande Ballroom at The Houstonian. There were lots of great little details for this wedding. The bride had Pave crystals decorating the bottom of her shoes with the wedding date and hearts. Later in the evening Jennifer she slipped on some fantastic red boots for the garter and bouquet toss. Ryan also wore custom boots made for the wedding which displayed his family ranch brand. There was a massive candy bar, filled with all sorts of white candy, laid out on top of a huge mirror. And did we mention the cakes? The bride’s cake itself was a beautifully elegant square,  white, four tiered cake from Susie’s Cakes. However the grooms cake was really special, it was a miniature of his family’s ranch in Beaumont, complete with pond, cows and tractors. After the couple returns from their honeymoon in the Bahamas they will reside in Austin.

NACE Wedding Trends 2009

David was on hand this past Wednesday to cover the NACE Wedding Trends 2009 Luncheon at the new House of Blues venue downtown. The theme for this year’s event was Indian weddings and the vendors involved went all out! As one can expect with an Indian wedding, there were so many rich colors and textures in just about everything. The food and cakes were absolutely amazing as were the flowers, lighting, dancers and musicians involved. Radhika Day from Weddings in Houston was on hand to speak and offer her expertise in this specialized area. The board really pulled out all the stops for this one and the attendance was over 200 people!

Cicely’s wedding

We covered Cicely and her fiance’s wedding this past weekend. The ceremony was held at First Presbyterian Houston with the reception following at the Petroleum Club of Houston which has some of the best views of downtown as it is on the 43rd floor of the Exxon building. This was such a fun and lively wedding and was beautifully decorated with florals by Events in Bloom, linens and chair covers provided by The Linen House and an ice bar and specialty drink ice station from Ice Designs.

The couple met at Sky Bar, so they had one of the house bands play, which was quite significant to them. Melanie Covington’s band was fantastic, and boy could the couple (and petty much all of their guests) dance! At one point the multi-talented bride got up on stage and played drums!

The bride’s wedding gown was designed by Vera Wang and she had gorgeous, pink Christian Louboutin shoes. The guests were treated to a steak and lobster dinner and in addition to wedding cake by Susie’s Cakes, the guests were served a flaming dessert course.

This was truly a first class wedding, with so many little details that made the whole thing come together perfectly.  Cecily and LonDee will reside in Houston after they return from their honeymoon in Aruba.

Ashley + Dan wedding

Ashley and Dan  were married in a wonderful outdoor ceremony on the meadow of the Houstonian. The weather cooperated and combined with the lighting of Bright Star Productions and the florals and lanterns of Wedding Flowers by Lisa it was truly a magical ceremony. The festivities were coordinated by Lindsey Smith of For Your Memories. Entertainment was provided by the band Brotherhood and the bride’s cake was from Susie’s Cakes. Dan’s favorite dessert is cheesecake so instead of a groom’s cake, they chose to offer a cheesecake station. The guests could dress up their own cake with a myriad of toppings.

They are currently enjoying their honeymoon in New York City. Congratulations!

Carin + Sam wedding

Carin and Sam were married this past Saturday in a non-denominational ceremony at the Rice University Chapel with a lavish reception following at the Crystal Ballroom at the Rice Hotel. They met in Washington D.C. and now reside in Houston where Carin is a graduate student at, you guessed it, Rice University . We were so glad that the wedding was able to go off without a hitch so soon after the hurricane! It was an amazing blend of Catholic, Hindu and Jewish cultures.
