Nearly all of the couple’s guests were coming in from out of town for the festivities. The one thing that the couple had insisted on for the rehearsal dinner was that it was going to involve introducing their guests to their favorite Tex-Mex restaurant, El Tiempo. The dinner was hosted by the groom’s family on the patio of the Washington Ave location and included wonderful toasts as well as a interesting “roast” of the groom to the tune of ABBA’s “Dancing Queen”.
As the area was still without power the facility was up and running with commercial grade generators. You would have never know it with the exception of the equipment in the back parking lot. Houston was also fortunate to have received a “cool” front just after the hurricane so being outdoors was actually pleasant. The guests were very understanding of what we had gone through and I was amazed to learn that the remnants of Ike had caused damage all the way up into Ohio. Of course with local television being a near 24 hour Houston Ike updates we were oblivious to what was going on in the rest of the states. One guest that lives just outside of Columbus, Ohio had been without power and for a few days and trees downed all over the area due to Ike.
