This past Friday night Laura got to go play backstage and all around the House of Blues to take photos for Fried Ice Cream, a variety band we work with on a regular basis. It was pretty exciting, let me tell you. Not only are they a great band, but just the thought of all of the really awesome performers that have and will share that stage is just jaw dropping.

We were recently asked by Buffy Scott of Imagine That! to document her set up for a holiday party she designed at the Westin Oaks Galleria. The party had a James Bond theme going on, think “Casino Royale,” and she did a fantastic job on setting the scene. She had all of these fabulous cut outs that she had made of spy silhouettes, that really looked great. She also painted a really cool backdrop for the guests to have a photo opportunity as they walked into the casino party. I left well before the guests started to arrive, but I can only imagine what a great party this turned out to be!

Mary is an actress, singer and musician that I (Laura) met at an event a few months back and they had planned on doing a sort of trash the dress session…. but then Mary found out she was pregnant and we changed our plans up a bit and decided on a maternity session instead![]()
Mary was a lot of fun to play with an brought along several props and meaningful items so we could get some variety.
She has collected insect specimen for years and brought along a dragonfly and a cicada to play with.
She also brought in some flowers and I brought in my daughter’s violin. The best part though was the little signs she brought in saying “danger” because this is to be her baby daughter’s middle name![]()
Can you imagine that, she can really say “my middle name is Danger”. I just think that is awesome![]()
Next up we will do some newborn portraits and then maybe, just maybe we will get to that trash the dress session.

Heather and Zach were married this past September at the Houston Arboretum in Memorial Park. We were not there to cover their actual wedding, but they did want to get some cool photos after all dressed up at the same location (minus the tent and guests obviously).
We had a lot of fun traipsing around in the woods (and fighting off mosquitoes) and taking photos. We even got a few on Heather’s Triumph and in plain clothes.
Shanda and David were so much fun to hang out with. We got to knock around South Congress Ave in Austin and take lots of photos. Although it is out of town, this is one of my absolutely favorite places to hang out and I try to go out there as much as possible. I have just seen it grow and change so much since I was in high school in Austin in the 80′s. Shanda and David are getting married in Austin in April and I know their wedding is going to rock because Shanda is a creative kind of gal (and an art teacher). I can’t wait to take photos!

This was a truly cool engagement session to photograph and proof of one of the reasons I love my job. I got to go out to James’ family ranch in Blanco, Texas sitting on 2500 acres of prime hill country land complete with abandoned German settlements, old barns, not to mention an awesome couple and a cool dog named Paco. Stacy and James are getting married next month in Houston and I can’t wait, I know it’s going to be a blast.

Laura has known Allison for a quite a long while, since they were in high school. They got reacquainted through Facebook, which is an awesome time-sucker/resource![]()
Since Allison and her family now live in Dallas they had been planning and corresponding about when and where to do a family portrait. We decided to go to Hermann Park as our location because there is just so much there to see and do (and photograph).
Allison did a great job getting every ones outfits together and coordinated, which I think can really add to a session. Not to put too much into it, but when planning a family portrait, it is sometimes a good idea to also keep in mind where it is going to hang and how this should effect clothing choices. For example, if your house has a lot of dramatic, deep colors maybe pastels should not be the choice![]()
Lindsey and Paul were married last Thursday in an intimate ceremony at Tiki Island.
When I (Laura) first spoke to them (a week or so before their wedding) they were just going to have a small ceremony with the two of them and a judge at a local park and then we were going to go take some fun portraits of the two of them around Galveston. Well, as the week progressed, friends and family gathered together and the plan changed significantly and we had a full blown wedding! I was really amazed at what they managed to pull of in less than two weeks time! They had a gorgeous outdoor wedding at the Village of Tiki Island at a friend’s house surrounded by all of their family and friends. And we still got to do a few photos around the Strand![]()
The couple honeymooned in San Francisco and will continue to live in Galveston while Lindsey finishes medical school at UTMB. Congratulations you guys and it was great to meet you!
We worked with Michelle in October at Paraiso Maravilla to create her bridal portraits. In order that Chad did not accidentally peak we have posted her images until after the wedding. Bouquet courtesy of Wedding Flowers by Lisa

Oh, what can we say about Bevin and Dan’s wedding that would truly describe it? This was really a completely fabulous celebration of love between one of the neatest couples we have had the pleasure to work with. We were approached by Bevin about a year ago about her wedding, and I was so happy she ended up choosing us!
So about this wedding!
We started our day of at the Hotel ZaZa in the museum district. Bevin was getting ready with her girls in one of the suites while Dan was upstairs in the Black Label Suite (which was going to be their suite later that night). This is one of the “Magnificent Seven” Suites on the 12th floor and one of the ones that has an out door tub! We took lots of photos at ZaZa before heading over to the Chapel of St. Basil for the ceremony.
The ceremony itself was a very touching Catholic ceremony. The personalized service was enhanced by Dan’s sister in law playing guitar while his niece sang a song for them.
After the ceremony was over, Bevin and Dan exited the church where we got lots of photos on the lawn in front of the church while the guests had cocktails in the labyrinth to the sounds of a full mariachi band. The couple were soon introduced as husband and wife and then guests walked to the Menil Collection by lantern light where they were served cocktails and h’or dourves.
After about an hour we all headed over to the Richmond Hall where the Dan Flavin exhibit is housed for the main reception. Music was provided by the Richard Brown Orchestra, which is something like a 15-20 piece band in the big band tradition. The couple went into their first dance and I have to say they really were amazing dancers! After toasts everyone tucked into the food which was prepared by A Fare Extraordinaire. They had Churrasco steaks with chimichurri sauce, pecan fried chicken, avocados stuff with lump crab meat or edamame, macaroni and cheese with truffles, ceviche with fried plantains and jalapeno cheese grits. Very yummy!
After more dancing we went into the white room for the cake cutting. The cake itself was made by Susie’s Cakes and was also all white and shaped to mimic the Dan Flavin light pieces on the walls.
After the reception the couple left to party the night away at the ZaZa with their friends and family and then they went on to a two week road trip through the Florida Keys. Where this will lead them, who knows, but i am sure they will have a blast together!
