Iva + Ray portrait session

I met Iva through one of my networking groups, EWI, and have also done quite a bit of portrait work for the company she works for. So when she inquired about having an updated portrait of her and her husband how could I say no. It turns out their kids have been asking them for years for a portrait of the two of them. In fact it that it has probably been twenty plus years since they have had a professional portrait so I feel honored to have been chosen for the task. After reviewing our blog for locations they chose Hermann Park. They really were a breeze to work with and truly enjoyed the relaxed and efficient manner that I work.

Julie + Michael wedding

I must say that the weather has cooperated on more than our share of sessions and weddings recently. This weekend was no exception. Within 48 hours there was a forty percent chance of showers and thunderstorms for our outdoor ceremony and reception. Guess what… it was one of the most beautiful weekends we have had here in Houston.

So with that being said feast your eyes on the outdoor wedding of Julie and Michael around in the pool of the Hotel ZaZa. The couple each have a son and two daughter’s who stood up for them. The event was coordinated by Danyette with Two Be Wed while ceremony music was provided by Divisi Strings. The floral arrangements were courtesy of Julie’s sister in law, Diana Go, visiting from California with local assistance from Lee Capetillo of Ta-Dah Events. Evening entertainment was also provided by the NiteBeat Band. The couple were pleasantly surprised  later in the evening when the guest were provided customized handkerchiefs with their names and date for a second line dance complete with a white lace parasol for the bride. Finally to conclude the evening staff prepared and lit large luminaries for launch from poolside. Now that was a great interactive conclusion to the eventing for everyone including several of the hotel guests.

Hyde family portraits

I have known Justin and Brandi for years. I actually knew Justin before he and Brandi had got together and he was a fresh faced young man that came down to Houston from Oklahoma, where his sister Amberly lived and to be a part of Ecclesia church. I think he must have been about 18 at the time. I was around when he first met Brandi, and you could tell that she was “the one” for him. My family even went to their beautiful wedding at South Main Baptist Church and Bammel Gardens. I remember them being so patient because my daughter Maddie was just in awe and must have asked to dance with them a million times! She thought Brandi was Cinderella:)

I took their first maternity portraits when Jonah was about to be born and at this time I only did fine art photography, in fact I think they were probably my first commissioned portrait! They just had their third child a few months back and Miss Betty is almost 4 and J0nah is now 6! They have also planted a church in Brenham, which started out with the two of them a few years back and now they have about 100+ members, which is quite an accomplishment. It has really been great to see their beautiful family grow.

For this portrait Brandi wanted to get some photos in the Bluebonnets. But she did not want those typical cliche bluebonnets photos, so we tried to go with something a little different. She picked out an awesome wardrobe and we grabbed a couple of vintage chairs from Casa de Hyde on the way out. She actually did the scouting for me and we came to this great, secluded field in Chappell Hill. There was a little climbing of fences involved. I had actually driven through the area the weekend before and was AMAZED to see the bluebonnets and wildflowers along the side of the road. It was truly awesome! I was even more amazed to see the sheer amount of people pulled over on the side of the road taking photos! I have lived in Texas most of my life, and I have made this drive many times, but I guess I missed out on bluebonnet season. Now I can say I know what all the fuss is about! In our field there was not a plethora of photographers, but there was one lonely painter going at it with his oils!

Anyway, I really want to thank you guys for choosing me to document these times in your life. You have one awesome family and it has been an honor.

Shanda + David wedding

Shanda and David were married April 10, 2010 at River Place Country Club in Austin  while David was back in Houston covering the Collins wedding, I got to do this one! This was my first time working at this venue and I have to say it had the most stunning view of the Hill country!

The wedding had a multi-cultural theme to represent all of the wonderful places all over the world that Shanda has lived and traveled. The cake had a mehndhi design on it and she had a thousand origami paper cranes made by her fathers maid in Vietnam. Shanda is  an art teacher in Pfugerville, so as you can imagine, she does creative well. The result was just beautiful.

Congratulations you guys and thanks so much for letting me play a  part in capturing your day!

Ansley + Scott wedding

Ansley and Scott celebrated their wedding this past weekend with a noon ceremony at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church with an early afternoon reception at the Plaza Club. The event was locally coordinated by Mary Ann Webb and the cake was provided by Who Made The Cake!

The couple met while working at NASA 9 years ago. Specialty drinks were appropriately “space” themed.  Their family came in from all across the states with Florida and Iowa being the most represented since that is where they were raised. We did however have quite a few Florida and Florida State alums.  Ansley changed into her mother’s wedding gown for the last part of the reception for her going away. After a honeymoon in the Virgin Islands the couple will continue to reside in the Houston area.

Ansley’s bridal session

These are Ansley’s super secret bridal shots, didn’t they come out gorgeous? We had to hold off on showing them until after the wedding, so if you are reading this, Ansley and Scott are already married!

We photographed her bridal at Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church near the Medical Center. Palmer was going through some renovations while we were shooting, so we used an old chapel that was a little quieter and more understated. The brides father came along to the session and we were able to capture a first look he had at his stunning daughter in all of her wedding finery. It was a very touching moment that we are not usually able to capture. Laura also brought along her home made lens to compliment David’s other images just to mix it up a bit.
