Portland, Oregon

Many clients often ask me what I do for fun. Well to be honest, I really do love what I do for a living and have so much fun regardless as to what we are working on. That being said I always enjoy exploring new locations and documenting architectural details, landscapes and abstractions. I recently had the opportunity to visit Portland, Oregon and thoroughly enjoyed how charming and progressive it is. Growing up in Texas and mostly the Houston area we really do not get true seasons, so often our fall is brief and just really not that exciting. So arriving in Portland and taking in all of the senses was a true pleasure. The smells, the colors and the chill in the air was a pleasant distraction. I previously posted these images on Facebook and many asked to see them larger, so here we go. Below are some favorites from the town itself.

Brand New Studio Displays!

If you missed our recent open house, don’t fret. We photographed our studio sales room to highlight some of our most recent display prints in all their splendor as well as a few of our newest sample albums.

The five large vertical portraits are 34″x54″ Gallery Wraps from our trusted lab of 17 years, Millers Professional Imaging, and we think that they fill the space rather well. Now we understand that many of our clients will never need such a large image, but for our studio with its high vaulted ceilings and the few select bridal shows we participate in each year they should make quite an impression. Protected by a smooth gel coating they are a more modern approach to displaying portraits and fine art images. Each is printed directly on a canvas stretcher frame where the image is actually wrapped around the edges. Another feature is that there is no need to frame them.

Our long term relationship with David Willis and Leather Craftsmen never ceases to amaze us. Their stellar customer support, service and quality is unsurpassed in the custom album realm. This is why we have used them as our exclusive album manufacturer for nearly six years now. Enjoy!

Imagine That! Westin Oaks

We were recently asked by Buffy Scott of Imagine That! to document her set up for a holiday party she designed at the Westin Oaks Galleria. The party had a James Bond theme going on, think “Casino Royale,” and she did a fantastic job on setting the scene. She had all of these fabulous cut outs that she had made of spy silhouettes, that really looked great. She also painted a really cool backdrop for the guests to have a photo opportunity as they walked into the casino party. I left well before the guests started to arrive, but I can only imagine what a great party this turned out to be!

St John’s School – Houston, Texas

We were recently hired by St. John’s School to document the architectural aspects and unique details of the campus for the Quadrangle, the school’s annual yearbook. We were honored to have been asked based on our attention to detail and vision.

If you are not familiar with St. John’s it is one of the leading private schools in Houston. If any of the images look vaguely familiar you might be surprised to learn that the campus was used as the school in the film, Rushmore, directed by a former St. John’s Alum, Wes Anderson.

Mary’s maternity session

Mary is an actress, singer and musician that I (Laura) met at an event a few months back and they had planned on doing a sort of trash the dress session…. but then Mary found out she was pregnant and we changed our plans up a bit and decided on a maternity session instead:)

Mary was a lot of fun to play with an brought along several props and meaningful items so we could get some variety.

She has collected insect specimen for years and brought along a dragonfly and a cicada to play with.

She also brought in some flowers and I brought in my daughter’s violin. The best part though was the little signs she brought in saying “danger” because this is to be her baby daughter’s middle name:)

Can you imagine that, she can really say “my middle name is Danger”. I just think that is awesome:)

Next up we will do some newborn portraits and then maybe, just maybe we will get to that trash the dress session.
